Gang Green Dilemma: Who to root for in SB 46?

By David Ferris on Jan 23, 2012, 5:02 pm

Sunday was a rough one for the Harbaugh Family, but the grief of a Jets fan is not far behind.

The Giants are in the Super Bowl. The Patriots are in the Super Bowl. The sum of all fears.

What’s a NYJ fan to do in two weeks? What do you root for? It’s not too late to cancel this bloody game, is it?

On one hand, you can’t root for the Patriots. Bill Belichick is persona non grata. The Pats and Jets play twice a year, they’re rivals, they hate each other with the intensity of 1,000 suns. Can’t have New England raising another flag.

Then again, you can’t root for the Giants. You don’t want to see Eli Manning’s mug posted everywhere. You don’t want to hear about Big Blue winning its fourth world championship while Gang Green still waits for the encore to Super Bowl 3.

Every Jets fan has to resolve this conflict to his or her own satisfaction, but the way I see it, you should root for the Patriots. Maybe Bill Belichick would decide to step down if he secured another ring. Maybe Tom Brady works out with a little less fervor in the offseason if the Pats capture the title. The Giants are your rival, sure, but you won’t see them in the regular season again until 2015. Hope the Patriots get fat on satisfaction, and deny the Giants the opportunity to rule the city.

At least, that’s today’s spin. Come back tomorrow and the angle might be completely different.
